Reading Against the Grain brings together seven essays that test the limits of comparative reading. Moving between Turkish, English, German and Arabic literary traditions, the contributors ask how texts resist the frameworks through which they are usually read, and what critical attention can recover when familiar categories such as “national literature”, “influence” and “world literature” are suspended.
The volume combines close readings with theoretical reflection and addresses scholars and graduate students in comparative literature, literary theory and translation studies.
